one more letter to the media

Dear Morning Edition and ATC,

For the past week I’ve been wondering in what kind of context to place your uncontextualized coverage of the furloughs in the school system LA county. I get it that it is the 2nd biggest school system in the nation, but I don’t see how that warrants incessant coverage without even mentioning the rest of the country.  Here in South Carolina we’ve not only had furloughs for the past two years because of massive budget cuts in our already not stellar funding of education, but have been faced with reductions in workforce; that is, teachers are being fired, class sizes aregrowing, and an already dysfunctional education system is getting more so.  In other words, LA is not unique.  It is incumbent on you to broaden the scope of your coverage.

Sincerely,
A teacher in South Carolina
