When did bombings become the commonplace?

Unable to sleep I got up and went to the studio.  Turned the radio and the news on.  Today, bombs exploded in Baghdad killing X number of people, yesterday it was Pakistan, the day before, Afghanistan...

While going about my business, I thought about how every day, in the morning and in the evening news, reports of bombings are commonplace. Every fucking day, one or more bombings perpetrated by "neighbor on neighbor".  Worse, I noticed that I just took such news for granted.

When did bombings become the new normal...  And who the hell can be optimistic in the face of this!
