There was a show at Winthrop not too long ago, and one display was a ton of small abstract drawings, and then there was a paper labeled "artist statement" but besides that it didn't have any other legible words. It was just squiggly lines that looked like words. I really liked that, cause some people can sound so annoying when they actually write them. I know that's different from art criticism, but this post made me think of it.
ReplyDeleteHey, that does sound like fun- I hate writing artist statements myself. I don't even remember what I was reading, but it seemed so disconnected from what the art it was about seemed capable of doing, and from what I know, as an artist, an artist goes through before putting something out... ...and I don't even remember what word I used to obliterate the word "art", though in looking at it, I guess it was "obliterate"... my mind is like an old horse, always taking the same path to water....
